Senator Bob Brown’s resignation from the leadership of the Greens is a sign that the far left are pushing forward, and will mean that the so-called ‘progressive’ party is only going to get more extreme, writes Senator Ron Boswell:
It is obvious that Bob Brown is resigning today because he knows his time is up and he wants to go out on a high. Brown knows that the party is losing the environmental message the party was based on and is now being used by the far left as a way to spread their extreme agenda. He is just trying to get out before that happens.
Without Brown, the far left and extremists will steamroll over the others and become the new reigning force within the Greens.
These members include the now Deputy Leader, Adam Bandt, a self-identified former member of the Left Alliance that once admonished ultra-left groups such as Resistance and the International Socialists for not being left-wing enough.
Bandt has referred to the Greens as a ‘bourgeois party’ that can be used as a Trojan horse for pushing an anti-capitalist, socialist Marxist agenda. He has identified the Greens as the best avenue to achieving socialism in Australia.
Senator Lee Rhiannon, who has long-standing ties with far left and Marxist organisations, has also played a role in pushing the Greens further and further to the left.
She has led the Greens’ push for an anti-Israel boycott, and has openly supported the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, one of the many issues that has divided the Greens party. A former member of the Communist Party of Australia, she once argued that the Greens respresents the closest to the best of the CPA’s politics and methods.
Other far left organisations with links to the Australian Greens include Socialist Alliance, Resistance, Solidarity and Left Unity.
This is in addition to revelations by ASIO of the party’s ties to extremist environmental groups that threaten the security of the power industry in Australia, such as via Greenpeace’s $6 million campaign to disrupt Australia’s coal mining industry.
These are the people who Brown now leaves behind to fight amongst themselves.
The new leader Christine Milne has said she will go into the bush to work on Greens policies with members of the rural community. But the truth is she will be persona non-grata in the bush. Nobody in rural communities want the Greens or their policies such as the carbon tax. The NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has recommended electricity price hikes of an average 16 per cent across rural areas due to this destructive tax.
In the Queensland state election, the voters in rural areas have already shown outright rejection for the Greens when they lost the seat of Mt Cootha, a seat they felt certain they would win.
Yet today, the Greens remain deluded by saying that they will one day replace the other parties as the political force in Australia.
Brown sees his resignation as a way of opening the doors to new ideas and progression. However, all he has done is destabilise the Greens further and paved the way for extremists in the party to become stronger and more vocal.
Ron Boswell is a Senator from Queensland, and the Father of the Senate.
WE JUST HAVE TO GET RID OF THIS SOCALIST COMMUNIST HARD LEFT GREEN PARTY that is runining the country!

It is good see Brown stepping down and hopefully the Greens will implode like the Democrats did without Don Chipp and while I agree with your sentiments Senator, your "1950's Reds Under The Bed" rhetoric only damages your own credibility.

Brown is leaving the sinking ship. He can obviously see the writing on the wall. The only legacy the Greens and the ALP will end up leaving for their members and misguided supporters will be years in the political wilderness.

Settle down. Last time I checked, Australia was a democracy.
Posted by: budgie smuggler | April 13, 2012 at 09:24 PM
well said, then the actual greens too, then the job will be done and every Australian can go back to getting his fair shake of the sauce bottle, the one labor took from the people and gave to themselves.
Posted by: Matt | April 13, 2012 at 09:36 PM
Who you kidding, only yourself by the sounds of it. labor are socialist and the greens are socialist, they only democracy being shown is by the liberal party, because Labor have there hands in every other union and department in the nation even covering corruption and sinister agenda's, democracy lol.

Yes Capitalism is doing such a good job for our country.
you guys need to get your hed out of your own behinds and wake up to the state your right wing ideas have left us in.
You use socialism and marxism like they are going to murder you in your sleep.
The selfish ignorant ways of the right wing are being shown for what they are, people are protesting in the streets about their lack of freedom and the slavery that you are putting people under. Right wing idiots who think that the way Howard has taken Australia was a good thing? he was ousted out of that last election resoundingly for a good reason, he RUINED Australia, and if it wasnt for the LEFT WING LABOUR coming and and putting the money where it was needed, our country would also be down the shitter just like so many other countries.
It is a shame some of you people are to blind and deluded to see what is happening in the world around you.
Your ignorance and selfishness makes me sick
Posted by: Kushiel | April 14, 2012 at 12:47 AM
Boswell is quite wrong when he said the Greens lost Mt Cootha...they have never held it so how could they lose it ??????
Posted by: Tom Skene | April 14, 2012 at 01:12 AM
And you Kushiel, obviously have no idea whatsoever about improving life on the planet.
If you think what Labor are doing is the way to go , you are in for the shock of your life .
Unless , of course you're one of thoseideological idiots from Get Up or some affiliated bunch of nutters.
Socialism , or marxism , as you call it , has never worked , and never will .
Capitalism is not perfect, but neither are humans.
But at least capitalism gives people opportunity to enjoy life .
Your way only leads to misery.
So, please go be miserable in your corner of the planet , and leave the rest of us to enjoy life.

Sorry PatC, but Boswell is spot on in highlighting the "Reds" connection. They are watermelons after all
Posted by: Andy Semple | April 14, 2012 at 02:22 AM
Well said Comrade. spoken like a true believer...a believer in anti-capitalism and anti-liberty.
Your interpretation of history is rather twisted. Howard and Liberals left the country with $40billion in the bank and no government debt. Your fellow leftards have racked up nearly $250billion.
The Australian people have had enough of the eco-leftard experiment. Come the next federal election your side of politics will be crushed. Qld was just the entree.
Posted by: Andy Semple | April 14, 2012 at 02:29 AM
The Senator is right -- Bob Brown was something else, quite distinct from the economic radicals in the Greens and even most of their young, urban voters. I've met Brown and heard him speak and I never got the impression that he was anything other than a bushwalker and occasional sh*t-stirrer who wanted to look at pretty forests.
Economically, he either didn't really get reality or didn't care. In his eyes forestry workers and miners weren't just honest workers trying to feed their families, they were a bunch of thugs who'd been trying to beat him to a pulp since 1982 so he wasn't upset at the thought of them losing their livelihoods.
His head-in-the-clouds cohort Peter Singer would've made a more suitable colleague for him in the Senate but instead the Greens attracted a bunch of rusty old socialists and student politicians; the people who now make up the bulk of the party and trumpet environmentalism as a new way to flog their long-deceased horse. I'm not particularly concerned, as I believe in the average Australian voters' ability to see this and send them to oblivion over the next couple of elections.

Very interesting comment.
How do you explain the annihilation at the hands of voters of the Queensland version of an incompetent labor party which incorporated anti-democratic views in its government programme?
How do you explain the federal government's position in the polls and their likely annihilation at the hands of voters when voters get the chance to express an opinion on their anti-democratic government and PM who tells lies?
I would suggest it is your own stupidity and ignorance which is making you sick, not the majority of Australians who loathe the federal government and all it stands for.
Senator Boswell's comments about the greens are well founded as most sensible people know only too well. Another thing, the reen's share of the vote went down, not up, in the recent Queensland election.

Well Stated Andy, today people think Communism is not around any more. Let me tell you, as an Oldie, I can assure you all, it is still here, but under other insidious names. Don't be fooled, it is a Cancer. Anyway:-
OUT with the RED + GREEN and in with the BLUE.
Apply the appropriate Colours, get the Message.
The whole Country, minus a few diehards, have had a gutfull of these Clowns in Government.
The Queenslanders have shown us the way.

The sooner Australia wakes up , the easier it wil be to fight.
Sadly , I think Australia will sleep through the whole takeover.

The Trots have a history of what they call "entryism".
They infiltrate movements and political parties to push their own agenda using the useful idiots in these movements.
The environmental green protest industry has been a tremendous opportunity for them.
Posted by: Nick | April 15, 2012 at 01:13 PM
Mate, way to change history. Those other countries you are trying to compare to Australia were in major trouble for years and years with their poor running of the economy. The reason Australia got through it so well was that it had money in the bank unlike others who overspent and the slightest pressure would send their economy to the crapper. And who had left the money in the bank for the rainy day..... and who now has no money in the bank for the next rainy day and is now having to cut services.....

Thanks.
I have not read Senator Boswell's ( was it?) contribution but I will after this.
The media as ever are keeping clear of stating the big events of this year for the Progressives.
Firstly, big fuss that PM Gillard will not be going to the Olympic Dinner because she will be at G20 and the Sustainability Conference ( Sunday Age). Okay, this does not really alert you to how important this is now does it?
Its not just, the sustainability Conference, its RIO+20, meaning the anniversary of the first Earth Summit in 1992. Julia Gillard will be going because she will be honoured for getting the Carbon trading going. This is very BIG in the alternative political universe of Progressive Politics, far more important than any "old world" Olympics, right?
Bob Brown, next.
If I have not worn out my welcome?
Posted by: Pip | April 15, 2012 at 06:41 PM
The media as ever are keeping clear of stating the big events of this year for the Progressives.
73% of the electorate think Gillard is full of shit. The popular media are trying to protect her. Labor supporters would rather see her promoting the country at the Olympic dinner and are highly sceptical about any airy, fairy greeny 'sustainability' love-ins. The MSM are doing her a favour by keeping this out of the public eye.

This is to get rid of the italics.
Posted by: John Mc | April 15, 2012 at 06:50 PM
Bob Brown resigns, big fish in a small pond?
For me, Bob Brown resigns and I say, big deal, so what!
But once again, Bob Brown is probably becoming a bit of a luminary in progressive politics?
Will he be honoured at RIO+20 for helping Julia Gillard bring in the Carbon Tax?
It is also the Stockholm+40 this year ie 40 years since the first Sustainability Conference put Progressive politics on the agenda.
You see Bob Brown is still around actually getting runs on the board of mainstream politics when Progressivism has reached its zenith? Well not quite its zenith but they have almost reached "tipping point".
Another thing for you to think about is what someone said today, may have been Andrew Bolt, maybe Bob Brown is leaving for an International job.
I think its quite likely.
What ever happened to Ramos Horta's aspirations?
He's free to join the Internationalists now but will he?
Is he too old?
Is some quazi-new world order about to be announced with some of the old war horses heading it up?
Okay, maybe letting my imagination run away with me but 2012 was always due to be a very big year in the NEW AGE calender. I think it was Michael Costa who said today that the Greens were made up of NEW AGERS ( new pagans) and water melons, he described Bob Brown as a New Ager rather than a water melon.
Who knows?
Posted by: Pip | April 15, 2012 at 06:57 PM
Andy, aren't many economists also asking for a rethink on a surplus at this time?
Posted by: Arthur Dent | April 15, 2012 at 07:18 PM
Each wing of the International order plays a straight bat as far as their brand is concerned. Milne and the MSM have been pushing this barrow since Julia made the pledge to bring in a surplus. But this is bogus and simply politicking.
The reason they are doing it is because Steiglitz ex IMF spent the 2010/2011 Christmas within Treasury telling them how they have to position for the impending world economic order.
Note: Eurozone countries are told they must aim for surplus. Legarde said last week, basically any countries that can bring in a surplus, must.
Australia under the ALP want to get brownie points for being practically perfect in everyway... its a Labor thing, that feeling of insecurity and wanting to be top of the grade. That was not just a Kevin 07 obsession.
The Coalition want to do it also. But not to get praise, just because its actually good economic policy.
Posted by: Pip | April 15, 2012 at 07:19 PM
Andy, aren't many economists also asking for a rethink on a surplus at this time?
No government is capable of managing the budget to the level of economic theorists anyway (and usually economic theorists are working with the privileged benefit of hindsight). It is more dangerous to get into the habit of constantly running a budget deficit than it is to demand that a balanced budget is run across the cycle even if that means some discomfort or the timing is not perfect.
Posted by: John Mc | April 15, 2012 at 07:28 PM
Also, let's not forget that Labor's budget surplus is pretty much just on paper anyway. There are an awful lot of items that had $100M allocated this year, but amazingly just need $10M next year, but even more surprisingly the year after they're back to $100M! And nothing else has changed in the corresponding program or department! Swan really is a genius, just like the Europeans said!!

To Kushiel whoever you are, you should do a bit more reading about factual circumstances in politics over the past 12 years and less ranting about stuff that you know nothing about. Do you like Bob Dylan? Listen to his his great song entitled "Idiot Wind". You might like the tune but you won't learn anything because you've already established yourself as "the idiot".

QLD LABOR CAN MEET IN THE PROVERBIAL TARAGO AND STILL HAVE A SEAT SPARE.
AND BE REMINDED, THE OPINION POLLING FIGURES BEFORE THE QLD ELECTION SHOWED A BETTER RESULT THAN THE ACTUAL ELECTION.
THESE FIGURES ARE SIMILAR TO GILLARD'S OPINION POLLING. LETS SEE JUST WHAT "RIGHT WING AUSTRALIA" THINKS OF THE LABOR/GREEN SOCIALIST ALLIANCE NEXT ELECTION. I WARRANT IT'LL BE WORSE THAN HOWARD'S DEFEAT.
