Keith Topolski discusses the latest victim of polictically correct defamation.
Not content with trying to ruin the lives of people in general with their levels of astounding incompetence, the latest target of the left is one of this nation's most respected individuals.
After stating the bloody obvious, Father Chris Riley has been accused of corruption by resident gibberers Xenophon, Wilkie and Tim Costello for, horror, daring to claim that extortion mandatory pre-commitment is not the correct way to go about helping people.
Now, although there is little to like about Peter Garrett, at least he had the decency to roll out constituents who supported this measure as a way to curb problem gambling.
Some may question my naivety in merely accepting that these constituents ARE actual gambling victims but, unlike the left, I don't demand tax audits on anyone and everyone before allowing them a say on any given subject.
I find this attack on Riley particularly distasteful, at least from Nick Xenophon, who hardly has a great record in dealing with matters involving religious organisations.
Now I myself am no fan of organised religion, but given Xenophon's quote about Father Riley buying the industry line and his comments of scientology as a cult, I have to wonder whether Xenophon isn't merely on a crusade of his own.
Wilkie, on the other hand, believes Riley has been influenced by donations to his organisation.
Horror of horrors, the clubs industry donates money to people who do community work. Stop the presses!
Wilkie would do well, rather than sending the thought police to investigate Father Riley, to trawl through the grubby deal involving Bob Brown and Wotif, where Brown is alleged to have acted corruptly in attempting to promote eco-fascist eco-tourist interests in exchange for dollars.
Further to this, Wilkie might care to explain rumours regarding his newly discovered sympathy for the mining industry on the back of this piece. Say what you like about Vexnews, but they rarely get it wrong.
If Wilkie, Xenophon and their anti-freedom cohorts are going to engage in grubby accusations of corruption, they might do well to be above rapproach themselves.
Chris Riley does more to help the underprivileged in our community than either Xenophon or Wilkie ever would have even thought of.
Oh, and while we're on the topic of people being hypocrites about others being fleeced, Tim Costello might do well to remember his beloved World Vision only uses fifteen cents in every dollar received in donations to help those they claim need assistance.
Putting the corruption charges aside, though, this is just another example of how the left seeks to stifle debate by attacking the man rather than the ball.
Every day, the left creeps forward in its attack on free speech, and every day we must fight to defend our freedoms.
Just remember, Hitler used the democratic system to get his way, and so are today's free speech fascists.

Spot on Keith - great piece!

Why not talk about all the money GetUp & various gay lobby groups get who somehow always support what Labor left & Greens want? I'd be more inclined to believe that Left is corrupt then Father Riley who has a track record of saving kids!
Pokies non reforms are just another exercise in deflecting from real issues of rising prices. Well done on Fr. Riley to stand up against Lefty Talibanis!

Keith, Scientology *is* a cult and anyone who opposes cults is a friend of mine. I spoke recently at Parliament House at an anti cult conference, which incidently was co sponsored by Liberal Senator Sue Boyce and by Senator Xenaphon. I don't take issue with your other commentary, but don't stick the boot into someone who is sticking the boot into Scientologists!

Great piece, Keith, and so true.
Where I live, bouyed on by the coming pokie legislation, our council are in for their chop putting a levy on every club in the area according to the number of poker machines they have.
These clubs donate many thousands of dollars to sporting organizations, troubled young people programmes and community charity groups.
For shame Xenophon - and the incompetent Gillard government for ever letting themselves be blackmailed into this fiasco.
And long live Father Riley and his great work.

"These clubs donate many thousands of dollars to sporting organizations, troubled young people programmes and community charity groups."
Not a patch on the money they recieve in profits.
Not a patch on the misery they inflict on the community by being an inescapable 'refuge' for problem gamblers.
And funnily enough sporting clubs in Victoria survived quite well without the aid of pokies pre- late 1990s - as the ones in WA continue to do.
Fight against this legislation if you want- be please don't kid yourselves that pokie owners are not 100% addicted to the profits this supposed 'form of entertainment' provides, to the detriment of wider society.
You ask the Salvos what they'd prefer: a token donation by these clubs, or the end of pokies- I know what they'll say.
I wonder how you'd all feel about brothels opening up as an annex of every suburban pub?
Posted by: pk | December 8, 2011 at 01:44 PM
I think you'll find that if a suburb has a pub it probably also has a brothel operating somewhere as well. Most people are tolerant to this industry and simply don't care, and the industry obliges by keeping out of sight so as not to offend precious little sensibilities like yours.
BTW, if you take the pokies out of clubs the gambling industry will go out of sight as well, and sporting clubs and charities won't get any of the funding. I suppose if people like you can't see it you won't feel the impulse to tell others what they can and can't do; so I suppose there's an upside.

"and sporting clubs and charities won't get any of the funding."
like they can't survive without it. Charities are swamped by the WORK these 'clubs' create for them- pure misery, family breakdown, criminal activity etc... and like I said sporting clubs have done just fine without ANY pokie money in the past.
Have you ever walked into a pokie venue? You can smell the depression the minute you open the door - just like a brothel. At least Brothels service some sections of the community as required and are are not in your face at 10 minute intervals in every outer suburb, nor are the ever excused as charitble institutions.

Xenophon, Wilkie and TIM Costello are all traitors to their own beliefs.
Wilkie - Betrayed his Oath of Secrecy
Xenophon - Betrayed his Integrity by using Cowards Castle.
TIM Costello - Betrays himself by his continual Hypocrisy and Bigotry as a "Clergyman".
What a disgraceful Trio to put up against a man whose works prove his qualifications.
Sky News Fairfax ABC and now News Limited(to protect themselves against Left Wing garbage) will continue doing this attack on any criticism of the Social Engineering Agenda of these groups in collaboration with this Left Government.
Start Speaking Up people. Day by Day the Totalitarianism is creeping in.
In the Sixties, as a Soldier, we were taught that the Left would win by:
Indoctrination
Subversion (a Crime repealed under Leftist Governments)
Infiltration and Control of the Media.
It is here NOW.

pk at 5.
Most of what you write is unmitigated rubbish. The rest is not worth arguing with.
Posted by: ibbit | December 8, 2011 at 04:36 PM
You would not know.
I used FACTS you use bias and ignorance.
I refer you to Wilkie, Xenophon and Costello's own history.
I can speak about Wilkie because I was security cleared to the same level as he was.
What's your claim to fame? I bet you haven't got the guts to use your REAL name like I do.

PK is just an agitator - He/She would bitch and moan about puppies and kittens.
Like oldfool, PK is a chromosome sort of an idiot.
Posted by: Andy Semple | December 8, 2011 at 06:57 PM
At least you apologise, Peter.
Unlike Puk (PK), Oldfool, Dante Ding Dong and the other merry bunch of leftards that troll here.
Posted by: Andy Semple | December 8, 2011 at 06:59 PM
It's okay Peter, mistakes happen, and you apologised.
I happen to agree pretty comprehensively with what you wrote.
What you speak of is here already, that's for sure.
But, speaking locally, when Bligh(t) decides to lie down, there will be one less nest of leftist vipers in the Country in 2012.
Then it will be the Dillard's turn.
Roll on that day.

"PK is a chromosome sort of an idiot."
if you're going to throw insults, please have them make sense and/or be funny.

OMG! You've hurt my feelings. I'm going to throw myself under a sushi train. LOL
Posted by: Oldman | December 8, 2011 at 08:34 PM
Unrestricted gambling, more people people and families on the skids, more Chris Rileys to look after those on the skids and all for the sake of political ideology?
No thank you, I would rather stop a problem before it manifests.
Posted by: Oldman | December 8, 2011 at 08:40 PM
Of course you would.......and of course, like all socialists, you'll just fail miserably (again) and deliver a worse outcome than if you let people make their own choices and encourage them to take responsibility for their actions for their own sake. Just like every other time with every other problem.

Peter,
This morning's headlines on radio confirm part of your first sentence.
Headline: Tim Costello caught out for accepting $4000.00 for a speaking engagement from the Clubs Association.
Tim Costello caught out for accepting a donation of $250,000.00 from the hotels association.
pk waxes lyrical against clubs and the damage they supposedly do. Would be far better if he waxed lyrical about the damage the government is doing to families, instead of pretending the rot in Australia is all down to gambling.
It is not the money here, but the principle that is important. One should not moralise or cast stones at others, particularly people like Father Riley,if you live in a glass house.
Posted by: ibbit | December 9, 2011 at 06:50 AM
Oldman, why am I not allowed to gamble as much as I can if I can afford it. How do you pass a law that says poor people can only gamble this much (or not at all) while the wealthier can gamble as much as they like. At what point does the onus of gambling belong to the gambler. Is it fair to ban pokies altogether because of a few idiots. Day by day you clowns defend the right for governments to take more and more control over our everyday rights and speech. There is one thing for certain, once the penny drops that you no longer have much of a choice or say in your own life you will be the 1st bitch and then blame the right who are actually trying to stop this nonsense.Just look at David Marr criticize the Howard government about censure and stopping of debate but not a word about this mob of clowns who make Howard look like the Mother Theresa of free speech and accountability.
