So 1215pm on Sunday the Carbon will hit the fan.
But why bother at all?
Julia Gillard on Thursday:
So what difference would this make to the world’s temperatures?
So the calculations. Gillard’s massive taxes and billions in subsidies for green powers will over the next decade avert (a measly) 0.00024 degrees of warming, providing she does all she claims she will, and provided global warming theory works as advertised.
And to achieve even that, how much will Gillard have to ratchet up her tax over the next decade?
Economic Pain for virtually ZERO environmental Gain.

Climate change came early last night when minus 2 degrees was some how not what I expected from the government or their green weather forecasters and No I do not want to pay extra taxes,so the greens and labor can promise something else which does not come true, what a con, fraud to some, but then there are some who will go along with this con and see what is in it for them. The ABC in Brisbane then reported this news briefly and then went on to celebrate, what a wonderfully sunny day we can expect!
and,the heat turns down in Tropical Darwin as well,What timing! Hyper - Hypocrasy in spades.

This is nothing but a money making SCAM for the communist one world government aficionados (Bob Brown wants it) In Europe there is wide spread greed and corruption and the benefit to the environment? ballpark zero in terms of 'climate Change', the convenient vehicle. I am mad as hell and will probably bring up my breakfast with the lot at my local tomorrow morning. What a pleasant experience that will be.

TONY Abbott's attack on Labor's carbon tax at last week's Growth Challenge conference reinforced his reputation as a conservative populist.
Yet Abbott's preceding speech was a forceful critique of Labor's carbon price, to be released tomorrow, and his most substantial set piece on the issue since Julia Gillard announced her climate change framework in February.
It contained little of the Coalition's cost-of-living scaremongering that dominates the 24-hour news cycle: an echo of the Labor and Green scare campaign against John Howard's GST. It bore the mark of Abbott's newish chief economist, Andrew Stone, former Reserve Bank official, a Stanford PhD and son of former Treasury secretary John Stone.
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/commentary/abbott-mounts-a-powerful-argument-against-gillards-carbon-tax/story-e6frgd0x-1226091000884
It will be interesting to see what Andrew Stone can do for Tony Abbott?
He gets the right of reply and the next few weeks are critical for him as well as Gillard.

We all know this is just about a tax grab and having a bag of money with which to buy the next election with handouts.
Since the tax is inevitable (thanks to a compliant media) Gillard should at least be put on the spot and asked what performance targets the tax has for emissions reduction and whether there will be a sunset clause under which after, say, three years the legislation will expire from the statute books unless it is shown to have met its targets.
Lucky for Gillard and sadly for us the government is not subject to the same scrutiny and accountability as the private sector.
Posted by: Barry | July 10, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Why should Tony Abbott have given what the Coalition would do to adapt to climate change? Policis are stolen from Tony e.g. sold sequestration which both he and Malcolm have envisaged. Now Julia talks about soil sequestration. What does she know about it.
I suggest Tony does not reveal his policies until the last minute as they are "pinched" by Julia Gillard who doesn't know a thing about it.

This government has become so addicted to new taxes there is hardly enough time between elections to introduce them all.
That is why the national debt continues to grow every week
Posted by: Anton | July 10, 2011 at 12:08 PM
We know this is a tax grab. However, we will find that it is not so much of a grab as a grope. Jullia Gillard says that it will bring in $11 bln.
Now let us list how this $11 bln will be spent -
55% to the needy = $5.5 bln leaves $4.5 bln
$1 bln to United Nations " $3.5 bln
Compensation to some industries unknown
Operating cost of complex system
depends on how much you earn, how
many children you have. etc.
More bureaucrats, offices etc. unknown
Easily rorted
NOTHING LEFT yet Julia plans to spend $3bln on renewables - where from?
The cry will be "sorry we have run out of money - no more compensation." And how can any details be worked out when as Julia said the tonnage price will go up and down.
Just how much has been wasted already on this ideological dream that Carbon Dioxide is a pollutant. Her words are that by 2020 16 mln tonnes of carbon dioxide will be saved from polluting the atmosphere. And then there will be 16 blns of plants and trees gone for lack of food. Australia could become a wasteland.
There will be a big shock coming when as NASA and thousands of other well known scientists predict that a maunder effect (cooling) is on its way. This is the most ridiculous wasteful policy ever invented by man. And it is not being enforced on the citizens of the most industrial nations - China, India, USA and rejected by Canada Japan and even recently France.
Julia Gillard is showing her real socialist colours in proposing such a tax that will do absolutely NOTHING to stop the changing climate which has been with us since day Saving the planet??? Julia Gillard, and all men are as grains of sand on the seashore and Julia Gillard should wake up to this before all Australians wake up to find themselves in deep trouble with our economic future in doubt especially as a GFC2 is predicted in the not-too-distant future. We cannot afford to lose our trade as our debt is enormous and will be even so with this tax and another GFC.
Wake up Austrllians before it is TOO LATE.

Taxes is all this government thinks about. How can we squeeze more money out of the hardworking taxpaying citizens of this country. They are the backbone of our economy and if the spine is broken so will the body. This seems the object of the labor/Greens.
Where is the transparency promised by Julia Gillard. We don't know how the flood tax has been spent. We do not know how much all this travel and living it up costs. We do not know the costs of the illegal immigrants debarcle, the pink batts debarcle, the BER debarcle and the cost so far of this iniquitous carbon tax, the inquiries, commissions, "watches", $900 to dead people and people overseas, pets, etc. and the debarcles go on and on. The waste this government has incurred has never before seen in the history of this country.
Posted by: Georgina | July 10, 2011 at 12:39 PM
And those are on top of the tax and waste imposed by Labor state governments and Greens local councils.

Posted by: Anton | July 10, 2011 at 12:44 PM
Pip-I have a serious question for you to help me understand the mindset of a lefty. Exactly what do you like about this tax. It doesn't lower emissions-in fact considering the claim many of us will better off (if you believe that your are a goose), why would you bother changing habits. Seriously, this tax will do nothing except hurt our competitiveness and therefore our ability to spend money on greener energies. So I ask again-what exactly do you like about this tax.

"Being a working Australian is becoming very similar to being a slave" says Anton who once argued on this page that people should work for 7 bucks an hour. Bring on your work choices Anton, exploit hard working Australians, make the rich fat and stuff everyone else. Hypocrisy by definition is always blind.

How long does it take for ths govt to waste money?? No time. Surely it had worked out where the money was to be spent and got on with the job immediately. No sign of that. Keep it for as long as possible! It should have been handed out immediately.

Dishonesty by definition is always wrong. I said that if someone is willing to work for $7/hr they should be free to do so. That is not slavery (note the word “free”).Where high punitive taxes target a small section of the population, causing them to earn less (after tax) than they produce, that is slavery. Slavery has been the foundation of leftist (big government) politics since Egypt suffered the Pharaohs, Hasn’t it Tee.
Posted by: Anton | July 10, 2011 at 06:07 PM
One should not be selective when using historical facts to bolster an argument. I spose the 300 years of the triangular trade that helped sustain capitalism during the Industrial Revolution had nothing to do with the freighting of slaves to the Americas? Slavery was one of the pillars that built capitalism. In your previous comments the word " free" was not mentioned. Go back and prove me wrong if so. The small targeted section of the population you speak of wouldnt be any of your mates by any chance Anton? Poor things, if only your Work Choices could have been implemented then they could exploit some more foreign workers to offset their loss in the new tax make up.
Posted by: Tee | July 10, 2011 at 11:36 PM
Tee, you show your own ignorance. In what is probably the original and most seminal work on free markets and capitalism, 'An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations,' the philosopher Adam Smith makes a point of decrying slavery as antithetical to capitalism as far back as 1776. Furthermore, as is regularly pointed out in these types of arguments, the victory of the north over the south during the American Civil War is largely attributed to the productive capacity of the industrialised capitalist north over the agrarian slave-owning south.

Since when is Tony Abbott an everyday Australian?
He's married, has children, goes to church and pays taxes - that makes him an everyday Australian. Shame the same can't be said for your shacked up, childless, atheist Marxist idol, JuLIAR. She wouldn't know the first thing about struggling families, and what it entails to raise one.
Posted by: bluebell | July 11, 2011 at 12:12 AM
Michael, Smith was critiquing a system that was already in place. Do you even know what the Triangular trade was? Obviously not. Ill leave the complicated American Civil War to another discussion.

55% to needy = AU$6b, leaves AU$4b
10% to the UN = AU$1.1b, leaves AU$2.9b,
approx AU$1b to companies, leaves AU$1.9b
No one knows how much will be lost to the bureaucrats managing the scheme, perhaps AU$500m
Leaves AU$1.4Bn for compensation... divided amongst 20m Australians, means on average, AU$70 per person...
thanks Julia !

Bluebell, im sure Abbott's is not a struggling family. But yes he knows all about struggling families, he helped create them under Howard. This present promoting of Abbott as a man of the people is such a joke that few take seriously.

(Bluebell, im sure Abbott's is not a struggling family. But yes he knows all about struggling families, he helped create them under Howard. This present promoting of Abbott as a man of the people is such a joke that few take seriously.)
People are now realizing that they tossed out the best government we had in decades under Howard. Be assured they won't make the same mistake twice as they size up your red headed liar and her equally traitorous sidekicks. The three Amigoes are dead men walking. Under her leadership democracy had been sidelined and trampled. Not one Australian voted for this TAX - the cow has no mandate to plunge this country into unchartered waters and jeopardize this countries economy, and ruin peoples lives. How arrogant and smug she was on TV tonight........one word: SICKENING!

AU$1.4Bn for compensation
No - the 55% is compensation for families
How do you feel you can just make this rubbish up?

"The three Amigoes are dead men walking."
Hmmm ... one of the amigos sided with the opposition last September. You're struggling to keep up it seems.
"Under her leadership democracy had been sidelined and trampled."
LoL
Well no ... the parliament is operating and passing legislation.
Now the ALP and Liberals voted for legislation extending ASIO powers, which may threaten democracy, but your assertion is onefrom la la land.
The only sickening thing about this is ...
"Not one Australian voted for this TAX - the cow."
Calling Julia Gillard a cow?
This type of behaviour is frowned upon at Menzies House.

I did my research well.....under your idol Gillard we will receive ZERO assistance.....even though we are self funded retirees on an allocated pension of $36,000!
How is that you may ask? Well, the 'cow' forgot to factor in that self funded retirees under 65 have no access to a Commonwealth Seniors Card - that was taken away by Commandant Rudd to save money as he threw billions around like confetti. 28,000 very very pissed off retirees will remember JuLIAR in the next election. I can't wait.....:-)
Revenge is a dish best served cold.....and cold is what the Labor party will be, frozen out of office for a very very very long time!

bluebell, self funded retirees are a shining example to society. You have worked hard enough to support yourself and the government even after retirement - well done.
The way this government has treated you is disgraceful, and even us "still working Australians" are angry. Especially when they bend over backwards to give money to those too lazy ever support themselves.
Posted by: Anton | July 12, 2011 at 12:28 AM
Pretty hilarious that bluebell thinks she's getting the short end of the stick here.
The biggest winners are (mostly) self-funded retiree couples with no dependants and a combined income of $80,000, split 70/30 between them. Thanks to a combination of tax cuts, pension rises and increased Medicare levy thresholds, they will get $2289 more from the government, yet they face a carbon tax bill of only $501. They will end up ahead by $1788 a year.
OK bluebell, so you don't have a Seniors Card, but you're getting a substantial tax cut. I'm not sure how the Medicare levy or family tax benefits affect you, but just looking at income tax and the LITO:
Old rate: (36,000-6,000)*0.15 - (1,500-240) = $3,240 or an average tax rate of 9%
New rate: (36,000-18,200)*0.19 - (1,500-90) = $1,972 or an average tax rate of 5.5%
That's more than $650 a week net... and I take it you own your home (bought before the housing bubble, natch), so you don't need to pay rent? Sorry, but you are receiving assistance, and you are not struggling. Perhaps you need to do a little more research.
Posted by: liberal elitist | July 12, 2011 at 01:45 AM
As this is the first year we have experienced an allocated pension we are yet to see how we will fare under this Carbon Tax. Oh, I forgot to mention, we sold an investment unit just before June 30, so we will in effect be paying the government a whopping capitol gains Tax bill, that will be on top of the fringe benefits Tax bill to be paid on his last year as a Supervisor for Rio Tinto. Now I can hear the roar of envy coming from the Labor gnomes already...
Just be aware that we worked like Trojans to achieve our self funded status.....and let's be frank, it's saving you lot a crate load of money in not paying for us. We also pay Private Health Insurance....another saving on the already overstretched public hospital system. Instead of being envious, you guys need ought to be grateful for people like us. Instead of leeching off the system we have paid our way every inch of the way.........for 40 years, and given the country two productive children as well.
Posted by: bluebell | July 12, 2011 at 02:11 AM
liberal elitist.
(and I take it you own your home (bought before the housing bubble, natch)
You can take it that early in our marriage we built a modest 3 bedroom brick home and struggled to meet the mortgage payments of 17.5% under Paul Keating. In fact we nearly lost our home. If it wasn't for our parents stepping in we would have. It took us years to pay them back....and pay them back we did. Unlike some, we weren't spongers, we broke our backs working to get back on our feet and swore that we would never be vulnerable again. Unfortunately many thousands of self funded retirees will be exactly that......vulnerable. No worries.......if we run out of money we will go on the Pension and become a burden on society. After all, that what you lefties want........everybody down to your level.

I've already apologized to cows, however, hell will freeze over before I apologize for calling her one. Now go and stand on your moral superiority pedestal and repeat after me: "What a good boy am I, what a good boy am I".
THAT woman is single handedly ruining this country and driving it into the ground - come election time she'll count herself lucky if she finds a cleaning job after furious voters get through with her. Maybe she can sweep hair clippings at one of Timmy's hair salons.
